Company

For Our Generation, or FOG as we like to shorten this brainchild of ours, is a heritage consulting company focused on preserving cultural heritage in its numerous forms for the benefit and joy of present day people. It can only be characterized as a multipurpose company due to the wealth of interesting business opportunities cultural heritage offers.

Our story started with a Cog, the ship-type used by the Hanseatic league merchants in the medieval times. To put credit where it belongs, FOG actually came into being thanks to the Estonian Maritime Museum, whose director Urmas Dresen and archaeologist Priit Lätti were troubled about what to do with the recently unearthed wreck of such a ship in Tallinn, the Estonian capital, and frustrated because there seemed to be no one around with the required knowhow for preserving this unique find. Hence they contacted Finnish colleagues, and after a couple of e-mails we found ourselves in a tent outside the Maritime Museum's Lennusadam premises admiring some amazingly well-preserved 14th century timberwork. Peeter Cog, that's the name of this thing - the very reason we finally made our old dream happen and set up this company.

So why us? We are two conservators who back in the days made the wise decision to specialize in waterlogged archaeological material, which makes sense because we happen to live on the shore of the Baltic Sea, a wonderful treasure trove for marine archaeology, at least when it comes to wooden shipwrecks, which preserve hereabouts much better than in saltier and warmer waters. Hence, we were the guys to deal with the Peeter Cog together with Priit Lätti and others at the Estonian Maritime Museum.

After the Peeter Cog, we were surprised and happy to find ourselves in another conservation project of a medieval Hanseatic League Cog, the so called Lootsi ship, on which we are curretly working on, until late 2025.

Mission

Cultural heritage is everywhere and it belongs to all of us. For Our Generation wants to underline that we are not only saving cultural heritage for the generation to come but for our generation as well. Our core expertise is in conservation and restoration of museum collections and cultural heritage sites, but we definitely see heritage worth cherishing elsewhere as well, for instance in traditions and habits of societies and individuals.
